Poll on the Ownership and Use of Farmland

In an Institute for Reform poll (RIO 2026-08, October 1, 2026, n=1,002), 65.5% opposed the change requiring local governments to order the sale of farmland that owners were obliged to sell but did not, against 26.3% in favor; even among respondents whose household owns no farmland, 62.0% were opposed. On farmland ownership by people who do not farm it themselves, 48.2% said it should be allowed when there are circumstances such as inheritance or old age, 32.5% without restriction, and 13.4% that it should be blocked without exception. 64.7% said personal circumstances such as old age or inheritance are more common than speculative purposes (26.6%) among people who own farmland without farming it. On the agrivoltaic system allowing solar facilities above farmland while farming continues, 49.8% were opposed and 40.6% in favor.
