Who Faces Higher Thresholds to Independence, Renting, Buying and Moving in Korea's Housing System?

Institute for Reform Issue Brief 2026-30 (October 15, 2026), Part 2 of the "Politics and Generations" series. For which groups are the thresholds high at the four stages of independence, renting, buying and moving? The conclusion differs by stage, and at no stage is it determined by age alone. Even within the same age group, the indicators differ greatly by household type, income and region. Indicators of ownership, cost, quality and security move in different directions for different groups, so they cannot be represented by house prices or the owner-occupancy rate alone.
